We’ll be adding to the site in the coming months so if there’s something that you’d particularly like to see then just let us know.

Stimulate debate with peer-enriched learning

There’s been a buzz in the office the last few weeks as we’ve been getting our very first peer-enriched learning courses ready (you can read more about The Budgeting Game below). Peer-enriched learning is our new approach to online CPD. These courses provide a powerful learning experience that stimulates debate and dialogue amongst learners and provide a valuable and evolving resource of professional knowledge and experience. Alan Nelson sums it up for us:

For some subjects there isn’t a right or wrong answer – just different approaches. These are topics that we think benefit from the peer-enriched learning treatment. Of course, there will always be subjects that you need to learn about from an expert and our technical and business skills courses focus on an in-depth approach to disseminating that knowledge to the learning. But for something like how to manage the recession, that’s not always the best method. The learner knows their business inside out – we don’t want to teach them how to run it but instead to help them to think about the issues and how they can apply them in their own particular situation. In this instance, knowledge and experiences of others in similar situations and industries is very valuable and it’s that sharing of knowledge that peer-enriched learning stimulates.

Peer-enriched learning courses take a topic and encourage learners to think about their own techniques and application, share their knowledge and experience and to learn from their peers. The learning takes place in three ways:

1. Self reflection
2. Learning from the expert
3. Learning from peers

How do you get the most from your online CPD?

We want your feedback, tips and thoughts on how to get the most out of your online CPD. What works for you and what doesn't? Do some marketing campaigns get brilliant results? How do you keep in touch with your members?

We'd like to share your experiences with other Nelson Croom partners. If you've got a tip or idea that could feature in the next newsletter, we'd love it if you could get in touch and let us know.

Get more from our technology

Our technology, Imago, contains some great features to help with the management and promotion of your courses. To help you get the most from the system we’ve published 9 tips in the Partners’ Area. For a taster, here’s tip 1 (to see the other 8 just visit the website)

How do I check registration numbers?

1. Select the course that you want to look at in Imago Manager
2. Click on Usage Monitor
3. Select Usage logs: Registrations for course name
4. Your report will be compiled

N.B. This report runs for the last 7 days. To select a different timescale change the option in the Period drop-down at the top of the screen.

If you want to check registrations for all of your courses at one time, it may be quicker to go to:

Usage Monitor > Summary Usage Charts
Select Gateway Programme Registrations in the right-hand column.

Don't forget to check our our new Imago tips in the Partners' Area

How professional associations are managing the recession

Alan NelsonAt a recent CPD Forum event, Alan was interested to hear details of how professional associations are helping members suffering from the effects of the recession. If you weren't able to make it, you might be interested in his blog entry on the subject.

Course spotlight: The Budgeting Game

One of two new peer-enriched learning courses, The Budgeting Game explains the barriers to effective budgeting and enables learners to create and manage more successful budgets. The author's practical experience, coupled with many hours discussing the issues in the classroom, enables him to frame the key questions and open the debate about how to create an effective and efficient budgeting process.

The Budgeting Game enables learners to:

  • choose the most appropriate budgeting method
  • devise ways to overcome weaknesses in their current budgeting system
  • consider ways of better communicating and presenting budgets to non-financial staff
  • meet the varying budget preparation needs of different departments.

If you haven't yet asked for The Budgeting Game to be added to your online CPD portfolio, drop us a line now.
